Plus, who doesn’t want to be a front man?!ĪP: We began writing songs about ourselves and it only seemed right that if we were writing songs about ourselves that we (or in this case, Drew) sing them. It’s sort of proof of concept, which makes us even more excited about what we have in store next. Having people respond positively to this song gives me a lot of confidence moving forward.
TV : Drew, what prompted you to sing on “Closer?” Have you always wanted to be a singer?ĭT: obviously new to singing, so thank you. Her attitude and her charisma as an artist work so well it just brings the song to a whole new level. Of course, let’s not forget how amazing of a singer she is. becomes more of a conversation and tale of a failed romance. She brings a level of depth to the song that doesn’t exist if Drew had just sung it. As far as this song goes, it was a no brainer having her be a part of it. You can probably find a ton of interviews where she was the #1 artist we wanted to work with. Curiosity.ĪP: We had been huge fans of hers. _ DT:_ Bad Memories: Do Not Open. Who knows? When you read that, we feel like you can’t help but feel something. TV : If you could tell a story with your music right now or give your “debut album” title, what would it be? And why? We think we are getting there, so we will see. We want our album to reflect a moment in time for us, to tell a story. For us, dance albums suck they are more compilations more than anything. We are thinking about what a Chainsmokers album would sound like. TV : Here’s the question everyone’s dying to know: are you guys working on a debut album yet?ĪP: We get asked that all the time, but who is to say there is a debut album coming? The album will come when we feel like there is a demand for it. Every week another titan drops new music and we have to believe in the quality of our music to push through. The other is competing with other artists. allow us to take these risks and supports them. Luckily, we have a great label that believes in us. We didn’t become musicians to play it safe. Not a lot of artists can say the same, but it’s those sorts of risks that can lead to an entirely new area for us. Drew sang on “Closer,” so he wrote, produced, and did all the vocals. There’s nothing wrong with that approach, but we prefer to always try new things. A lot of people have success with a style and then stick with it for a long time. _ Alex Pall:_ Since we are always trying new things, that risk not necessarily lead to reward. TV : What would you say has been the biggest challenge with your music - both new and old? There will always be a Chainsmokers red line through it all, but we always want to keep people guessing and excited. When people can predict what to expect from us, that’s when we feel like we are losing as artists. As we move forward, we will always try to continue to innovate with our sound. People can relate to it, but it doesn’t feel cookie cutter. In doing so, our music has become a lot more personal.
If it isn’t clicking, we scrap it and start over.īut when we started we weren’t confident about our writing or singing and gradually we have really come to believe in it. The single stream of consciousness is something we really feel strongly about. “Roses," we feel, is really when we turned that corner. Right now, we have a pretty good grasp on how we work best, which usually happens over the course of one session. We didn’t always start out trusting though and over the last year or so we have really grown into ourselves. It gives us a lot more freedom to try new things and push our music into new areas.
1 single on the Hot 100 for either the Chainsmokers or Halsey.Drew Taggart: Well, the confidence in our instincts has probably been one of the biggest changes. Listen to the two Blink songs below to figure out which version of the story you want to believe.īillboard reported on Monday that “Closer” has topped the Billboard Hot 100 for the fifth consecutive week. Looks like fans, including the “I Miss You” truthers, can continue relating to the line from their favorite Blink-182 song after all. Lmao or maybe it was ‘I miss u’ … Honestly I’ve listened to their self titled album so many times the whole thing is pretty much beat However, Taggart immediately contradicted his own tweet by then claiming that the song in question might have actually been “I Miss You,” or really any track from that self-titled album: 19), however, Taggart took to Twitter to clarify which Blink song really inspired the lyric: “Feeling This,” the lead single from the band’s self-titled 2003 album.įor da record: The song we beat to death in Tucson is ‘Feeling This’ The Chainsmokers on Ruling the Billboard Hot 100 & Owning the ‘Frat Bro’ Label
